How to Create a Beautiful Small Balcony Oasis.
When creating a beautiful balcony space first think of how you want it to feel. Do you want it to feel like an ocean oasis or a tropical island, maybe you love the desert or an urban feel. It is also important to understand how you will use the space, do you want to just drink coffee on the balcony, curl up with a good book in the fresh air, or gather with friends? Once you decide the feel you want and how you will use the space, you can start building from there. I like to start with inspiration pictures. I look up resorts I love or places that inspire me.
After I get my inspiration, I will start with the flooring. For instance, I will pick a rug or patio wood tiles. I then move on to the furniture, remember that scale is important here. Depending on the size of your balcony you may pick a Bristo set, a couple of cozy chairs or a small sofa. Next, I will add throw pillows in patterns that match my theme. I never choose a cheesy patten, I always will go with something that invokes a feeling, classy and simple. This will create a clean and polished look. After the main pieces are in place, I start building the finishing look with plants, lighting, drapes, greenery or shades to create privacy when you need it.
Don’t be afraid to use color! Color can create a mood (read my color blog to find out what colors are best for the mood you are trying to create) and conjure up feelings, so be aware of what colors you use to create that feeling you want to achieve.
I love to use plants to create my own little oasis. I love bright flowers and lots of greenery. If you need a low maintenance space, you can always use quality fake plants or stay away from them all together. If you live in a windy area you may have to place heavy rocks in the bottom of your pots.
Lighting is also very important. Do you need lots of light or soft lights. Personally, I like soft light. I use fake lit candles in hurricane vases and string lights to create a cozy soft look. Fake candles are great because there is no chance of causing a fire.
Just remember to have fun when creating your own little oasis and don’t rush the process. It can take time to get all the pieces into place. This should not be stressful. Just enjoy browsing and tagging inspiration photos or items you love.
